The Importance of Staying on Top of Your Car Maintenance

Here is the scenario: your car’s brakes haven’t been working right for some time. You have been intending to take the car to the auto shop to have them checked out, but never seem to have the time. Also, your windshield has had a big crack in it.

To add to your car issues, your headlights aren’t working properly.  As a car owner, you need to realize that you can be held accountable in an accident, especially if it is proven that your car wasn’t kept up with its maintenance.

Faulty Brakes

One of the most important parts of a car is the brakes. A huge majority of car accidents involve someone hitting or being hit by someone’s car. If your brakes aren’t working properly, you can’t avoid hitting someone if you need to slam on them to avoid an accident. Ergo, you can be held liable.

Another situation you can find yourself in because of your faulty brakes is if they stop working completely. For example, if you are driving and you try to brake, realize they are not working at all, and swerve your car. The result is that you cause another car to hit someone else or run into a ditch. Again, you can be held liable for the situation.

Cracked Windshield

A windshield with a crack or hole in it can hinder you from seeing people or objects in front or in back of your car. For example, if you are backing up out of a parking spot and hit someone, you can be held accountable if it is shown that your windshield had a crack in it.

Broken windshield wipers serve little purpose on a car. When it is raining, there is no way for them to keep your windshield clear so that you can see. If an accident occurs, it is possible for you to be held responsible, if it is proven your broken wipers played a part in your vision level.

Injured Passenger

There is also the possibility of a passenger in your car being injured during an accident. Did you know you can be held responsible? Especially if it can be proven that their injuries from the accident are a result of poor car maintenance of your automobile.

There are many scenarios where you as a car owner can be held responsible for an accident due to not keeping your car maintenance up to par. This is the reason why regardless how busy you are, it is imperative to get your car checked out regularly.
